Redskins Win….Campbell Nothing Special

I’m not going to talk a lot about the Redskins win over the Jets last night, other than to say through three pre-season games, I don’t think there’s a lot there to make a judgment on whether Jason Campbell has significantly improved this offseason. He’s made some good throws and in the case of last night, has missed on a few as well.

I’ll be looking to next week’s preseason game against the Panthers to get a better feel for where Campbell is at. Typically by the third preseason games, NFL teams play their starters three quarters before virtually shutting them down for the final game. Since the Redskins are playing five preseason games, there’s more room for Campbell to try to adapt to the new West Coast Offense brought in by rookie head coach Jim Zorn. Let’s hope it happens…

Mets Win, Johan Rules All

The Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates today at PNC Park by a score of 4 to 0. Brian Schneider had 3 RBIs and Carlos Beltran added a solo shot in the 4th for his 17th home run of the season.

The story today was Johan Santana. The Mets $137.5 million dollar ace pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only three hits. What amazed me was how completely effortless he looked today. Santana struck out seven Pirates, four after the sixth inning. While going the full frame, he allowed the bullpen a night off which considering the state of things these days is a definite blessing.

Other notables? Daniel Murphy continues to impress, going 1-3 with a walk and run scored. David Wright sat out today while Damien Easley got a rare start at third base.

One more game in Pittsburgh tomorrow and a win would definitely go a long way in exorcising some of the demons that the Mets have had here and against the Pirates in the past decade.

I’ve decided to start a blog.  Yes, yes, everyone has a blog….and I’m sure mine won’t be any more special than most, except that this one is MINE!!  What is this blog going to be about?  Well, primarily I want to talk about my two favorite sports teams: The New York Mets and The Washington Redskins.  I’ll probably also talk about other things, namely video games, other sports teams I love, trying to live in a fifty year-old house with virtually no handyman skils, and last but not least my two awesome cats.  I have no idea how long I’ll stay with this and I have no idea where it will go.  So, without further adieu, enjoy….
